Meet Ashley LaPrade of Ashley LaPrade Photography, a talented portrait and wedding photographer based out of Palm Springs but serving Southern California and beyond! 1. What inspired you to go into wedding photography?

I’m a very social person and I love chatting with people and getting to know their story. I realized I loved photographing weddings when I was interning for other wedding photographers. Being part of an extended family and using my talents to capture those special moments during a wedding day made me want to become a wedding photographer.

2. What do you look forward to the most at every wedding?

I look forward to when the couples exchange their vows. It’s during that short 5-10 minutes when they just completely open up and become vulnerable in front of each other in addition to all of their family and friends. It’s that moment of declaring that no matter what you go through in life as a couple, love wins.

3. What do you do to understand a couple’s vision and bring it to life in the photos?

I really try to spend as much time as possible with my couples before the wedding. Whether it’s over coffee, happy hour, video/Skype chat, or just grabbing cocktails, the more I get to know the couple, the better I can capture their wedding day and make it unique to them.

4. What advice do you have for couples in their search for a wedding photographer?

My best advice would be to ask yourself one question. “Could you see yourself becoming friends with this photographer? And if so, would you invite them over for dinner?” If the answer is yes, then go with them. It makes a huge difference for everyone involved during the wedding, especially the bride and groom, when you can communicate and get along as if you’ve been friends forever.

5. What would you say has been your favorite part about being a wedding photographer?

My favorite part about being a wedding photographer is that I get to capture the power of love. I feel for most of us we base love off of what we see in the movies or read in romance novels. The reality is love becomes the essence and foundation of a relationship and continues to grow and transform over the course of that relationship.
