This past May, we were introduced to Monica of Platinum Event Planning & Management when we worked together on a beautiful California wedding in Menlo Park at Rosewood Sand Hill. Since then, we’ve been in communication via email and have become fast industry friends (you’ll find Platinum Event Planning listed on our California vendor page as well). To get to know Monica and her business a little better, we wanted to pick her brain on a few Q&A questions, and she enthusiastically stepped up to the challenge!
Based in Southern California, Monica and her team at Platinum Event Planning has successfully brought wedding dreams to life all over California and Asia. As Founder and Managing Director of the company, Monica handles every single event herself right alongside her team to provide that genuine white-glove, personalized service. “In a world where virtual meetings are trending, we still choose to have a face-to-face personal relationship with our clients,” she explains. “At the end of it all, all our clients turn family!”

When was the first moment you knew you wanted to do this for your career?
I started Event Planning when I was 16 years old and to date, I have been doing it almost half of my life! I started doing it on the side for our company back in Manila, Philippines and whenever I finish an event, the amount of happiness that I feel is incomparable! I knew that I needed to make it as a career when people started asking me to plan their events without advertising. Come 2011, I decided to create an events company in Manila where I was born and raised and continue it here in California when I transferred to pursue love! 🙂

What is the biggest misconception about vendors in your category and/or what you do?
That we are expensive and that they do not need a planner. You always get what you pay for and every single wedding needs a planner. A bride and a groom should understand that it is their right to enjoy their wedding or BIG DAY completely, stress-free!

What do you do to understand a couple’s vision and bring it to life?
I definitely build a relationship with all the clients. I become their friend first so I would know the type of event that they would love and an event that they will remember for the rest of their lives. We don’t just take clients in, we make sure that the clients that we have are the clients that we want. We give importance to team chemistry with our couples and other clients.
What three words describe you personally?
Passionate, friendly, compassionate
Why do you love what you do?
Seeing couples or clients HAPPY is the best thing in the world! The priceless smiles on their faces is something that no amount of money can ever buy! I do what I do because it gives me a feeling of being able to be part of something BIG while making people, couples and clients happy! 🙂
What’s one thing in your closet you can’t live without?
My white cardigan
What advice do you have for couples about hiring a vendor in your category?
Always go for someone who you feel comfortable with! Go for someone who is passionate about event and wedding planning. Go for someone whom you can rely on every single day~ someone whom you do not have to chase just to get event updates!
You can bring three things to a desert island where you’ll be living the rest of your life. What are they?
My straightening iron, my toothbrush with toothpaste and my phone!
