We recently got to chat a little with Heather about her work, so read on to see what she has to say!
1. What inspired you to go into wedding photography?
I was a family photographer for years before getting into weddings. I did a few friends and family weddings and feel in love with the entire process! It is such an exciting time in a couple’s life and I love having the opportunity to capture all the joy, love, and tears of happiness.
2. What do you look forward to the most at every wedding?
My favorite part of the wedding day is usually the sunset photos with the couple. It is a time they get to just be with one another, enjoy the first moments as husband and wife and I am lucky enough to photograph all the beauty and love!
3. What do you do to understand a couple’s vision and bring it to life in the photos?
I meet with every couple – sometimes it is via FaceTime if they are out of the country, but one way or another I spend time with them and get to know them! This meeting helps me establish the vision they have for their wedding day. I usually meet with them before booking, then again for an engagement session, a walk-thru of the venue and sometimes even a lunch to go over the details so we can create a photo timeline. By the time the wedding rolls around, we feel like old friends and I have a very good idea of what they want to express through their photos.
4. What advice do you have for couples in their search for a wedding photographer?
When searching for a wedding photographer, the most important thing you can look for is someone you connect with because you will be spending a lot of time together on your wedding day. Also, make sure you like their style by asking to see a wedding from start to finish and not just highlights on their website.
5. What would you say has been your favorite part about being a wedding photographer?
My favorite part of being a wedding photographer is the connection and relationships I build with my couples. I have been known to shed a tear and join in the laughter and sometimes even the dancing on their wedding day 😉
