A Central Park Surprise Engagement Caught by NST Pictures

Engagements are always exciting. The ring, the setting, the kneeling, the surprise element…we get so giddy just thinking about it, so of course when Jennifer, our Headquarters Manager, got wind of the news that her sister, Kimberly, was going to get a surprise proposal in Central Park from her boyfriend, Patrick, NST Pictures was ready to step in and capture the moment! Below, Jennifer shares some insight into the surprise engagement, so read on for the backstory as well as the dreamy photos we caught!

Surprise Engagement

Q: How did you find out about the engagement?

A: Patrick basically told [the family] two days before he was going to do it! He wanted to completely surprise her and I think he wanted to avoid being completely overwhelmed by all of us – Kimberly’s 3 sisters and mother – which I can’t really blame him for. But once we found out, Patrick immediately asked me if I could help with capturing the proposal! Of course Daniella, our Creative Director, was totally game to help out.

Q: How did it go down?

A: They love NYC and occasionally on the weekends they would spend the day exploring different parts of the city. Recently Patrick moved to Texas for work, so trips back to New York had to include their exploring walks which helped set the stage. Kimberly actually chose Central Park but Patrick had been planning that spot on the lake for some time, so it worked out perfectly! On the proposal day as Patrick and Kimberly did their thing, Daniella and I were holed up in Central Park geo-tracking Patrick’s every move. As they were getting closer, there were many false alarms, both our phones died, and we even caught another proposal go down right before they got there (we captured that proposal too, and we emailed them their photos the next day!). Finally, we spotted them, and as Daniella did her best “bird watcher” photographer poses from a bush, I literally ran for the hills and hid behind a tree. Luckily they were casual and in no rush, which gave Daniella time to sneak closer to them! Eventually, Patrick found an opening in the crowd of tourists and dropped to his knee. Kimberly was completely surprised! As the tourists realized what was happening, they all started clapping and gave them the space to enjoy the moment and to take a few more photos. After that, the rest of our family was waiting at the Central Park Loeb Boat House with champagne to celebrate!

Q: What did she say when she found out she had photos?

A: I think she was relieved! There were so many tears and so many “congratulations” and so much “what just happened,” like an out-of-body experience, so knowing we had captured those candid moments made it all that much more real for them!
